I’ve been hearing a lot about the STAR method for negotiating but I can’t say I e ever used it myself, do people find it useful/successful tactic to use in interviews?

And by “I’ve been hearing a lot about” you mean you saw a post earlier this week? 🤨

Is the STAR salary negotiating method anything like the STAR interviewing method? I keep hearing people talking about the STAR negotiating method lately.

Maybe I’m getting those mixed up? I’ve only really heard of it recently!

I have only heard of STAR applied to interviews (and I personally hate the STAR method), not with negotiations. I'm not sure how it would be applied in that way. I suppose if negotiating a raise at review, when you already have examples of actions you've taken and results? I suppose I could see that being useful. For interviews, STAR is popular, but I hate how forced it feels. I do it anyway though, because interviewers look for it.

I think I go it confused with the interviewing method! I might need to do more reading on it.

LinkedIn is a garbage app where I can’t even post my opinion or experience because it will go against the mainstream ideologies. If I even “like” a post then I worry that my peers and managers see what I like and suddenly I need inclusivity training. What a load of shit! You can’t be who you truly are on that app. Which is why I like fishbowl so much, the anonymity is a game changer. If LinkedIn was a anonymous, we’d see a lot more support for Kanye and a lot less LGBQT material. Bet!

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.
