I’ve been here long enough to know the written promotion criteria are meaningless. What actually gets people promoted is invisible. How do you figure out the real rules of advancement without being in the inner circle?

Hi Everyone, Started my career in government 5 years ago working in an operational role, then focussed on HR for 3 years working my way up to a middle manager role in HR as a business partner and completed my Level 7 CIPD. I don’t think HR or government is for me anymore and looking to find something new, now 24 feel I have a lot of transferable skills and knowledge but worried about private companies in other professions taking me seriously. How are you all determining the future cost of college and target levels of investment for 529 accounts? Having a hard time seeing how 100k for college in 15 years is realistic. Also don't know the right level of savings to target (50%? More?).

I want to get out of ID so badly. I don’t mind the work but the hours are just killing me. I just started at a new firm less than 6 months ago and I am already desperate to get out. It is not the firm or the people. I just hate the high billables. I have been applying to other jobs but I think I may need a recruiter for help. Any recommendation for a great recruiter in NYC?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

PI Attorneys: What are some of your best talking points in negotiations with adjusters?

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......

How much time is acceptable to bill to admin per day?

I'm a long time prosecutor getting into the ID game and billable hours. Are there any resources out there that can help me get more effective/efficient without spending months/years learning the hard way? Some days I'm at the office 10 hours, took virtually no breaks and yet only bill 7. 🤬
