I've been in traffic control for 11 seasons with 3 separate companies. But it's always been "seasonal". No raises. No end of year increase. No bonus.
The company I'm with now, 3 seasons, started me off @ $23 am hour.
I need better money and less travel! (I'm laid off because ALL WORK IS 3 HOURS DRIVE. Company only has line work and it's all up north.)
Besides the obvious, what can I do?

It might be time to metaphorically and literally put down the flags and find a different career path.

Move? Go where the work is? Switch careers? Figure out of portion of your work you can do remotely?

Nothing about that industry sounds sustainable. I don't know a lot about the work, but surely you have a lot of transferable skills that could be put to use in a more stable industry?

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Interviewing for Cyber Sec role. At very beginning they ask salary exp. I said usual way to postpone that question, and to figure out their range for role. On final interview and I mentioned 85-95k and they said it’s on the lower end for role…. Did I lowball myself?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
