Viewing your profile is okay, but inviting you to connect is too far. I would frame viewing my profile as a sign of enthusiasm & desire.

It's odd, and I would not accept.
Not before you'd offered them a job, anyhow :-)
Thanks guys! I was keeping an open mind that maybe this is just some strange new norm and I was being out of touch.
To clarify, I do want to say, connecting with someone to genuinely connect with them to learn more about a company or have a specific question, I think that makes sense. But a blank connection invite with nothing besides an interview is awkward to me, especially if the candidate is a dud.
Ive had plenty of dud candidates interview lately
Yes that is strange and a bit intrusive.
That would bother me, but I also wonder if they’re being told to do that by the schools now. from August-September my DMs are flooded with students, a lot of whom don’t even bother to send a message with their connection requests. I think some of it is part of their career courses, and poor etiquette skills

As a recent grad, some of us are just genuinely intrigued and connecting to kind of follow your career/set a baseline for what we should be doing.
Looking back, I followed quite a few PE guys, simply because I had no clue about the career trajectory, parents not in finance, non-target school, and was learning from their posts. Probably could’ve sent a message instead of just lurking😂
Most recruiters send Linked In profiles now and ENCOURAGE the students to get to know the interviewer before the interview as part of the prep process. However, agree that sending a connection request ahead of time is too far
It’s weird. However when I was looking for jobs I tried to connect with alumnus that worked at the same company. I also sent them a detailed LinkedIn message explaining who I am and why I was interested in talking to them.
That is strange. Even when I’m invited to connect with an interviewer on LinkedIn, I won’t do so during the interview process.

Is it younger candidates? I will “follow” thought leaders or leadership people on LinkedIn, but that’s different, right? Sometimes I’ll send a message to someone to network if I read something they wrote or see something neat they have done. But I actually don’t send a connection request unless I actually feel like we are “cool.”
That said, a lot of peers try to connect with me all the time. If I know them personally or through our network, I accept. If I don’t know them, I just let it sit for a while. Sometime I do a mass acceptance of everyone in waiting room purgatory if I’m in the mood.
In conclusion, someone please tell me how this works 😂

Thanks D1. I wonder if, for younger generations it’s like social media where more followers is better. I’m an elder millenial, I have a private IG with 200 followers. I wonder if some of this is generational.
