From time to time, but generally I don't care. I came into consulting in my 30s. There will always be younger people at the same level. Who cares? I'm challenged in my role and happy with the financial security my salary affords me.
If you're one of those people who wants to be one of the youngest partners the firm has ever had, I get obsessing about this. Otherwise, learn to let it go. Work does not define your worth. And if you let it, things like layoffs, time off for medical and family, sabbaticals, become elements of stress instead of part of opportunities, natural life progression or even enjoyable events (layoffs aside)
I have and it is not very healthy mentally. I know the simple answer is to “stop” but I am very competitive by nature.
100%. It’s nice when it works in your favour but not so great a feeling when it’s the other way.
All the time..and feel I'm constantly behind.
Also there are many factors that go into - there are people who are two years younger than me and & at my same level but I also went to graduate school full time for two years right after undergrad so it does not bother me. Comparing via age/title will probably drive you mad given you dnt factor in everything else. Once you get to a certain YOE it all level sets anyway if u dnt choose to climb into the reigns of senior leadership.
And honestly, just looking at someone's title and salary is like looking at the FB reels. Would you still compare yourself to that person if you knew that they had no friends because they spent all their time working? No thanks, I wouldn't. No one has it all.
I came into consulting at age 30 as an experienced hire so I can go back to my industry job at a higher level. So no, I’m a few years older than most at my level.
