I've been working in local government for a few years and want to move into management. Is getting a Master's in Public Administration a good path to take? Would love to hear from people who've done it.

I definitely agree with the comment above. There is no way to know that getting that degree is going to lead to getting into management. Definitely network and seeing if you can shadow are a better way to get your foot in the door.

I would say getting a postgrad qualification would be the most expensive way into management with no gurantee of actually getting management.

I would say look for oppurtunities to shadow management. This can be through departmental schemes or simply sending a few emails to line managers.

This will serve a dual purpose of exposing you to management responsibilities and networking with managers so they can keep you in mind when a post comes up.

I would take a class here and there while you are working. It will help your resume even if you are still attending while applying.

Nothing beats experience. I would inform a few trusted people where you work and get their advice. If it were me I would maybe look into more leadership roles in my current position for my resume.

My masters was pretty much free. I went full-time and applied to be part of a work-study type program where I had to dedicate maybe 20 hours/week to special projects. They provided me a stipend and free tuition in exchange. I believe this was only available to full-time students but it was a great way to get my degree on the cheap and get practical work experience. I’m sure there are lots of similar programs out there - mine was a state school. If you can pause your career and go full-time to a program like that, do it. Every job I’ve applied to at my level seems to want someone with an advanced degree. If you need to continue to work, see about one of those yearlong programs that will get you your degree faster…hopefully your employer will cover some of the expense.

Check out the backgrounds as people get promoted. If they all have post-graduate degrees, I would think that is valued. If they all have 20 years of experience, that is what they value.

After working 5+ years and letting life happen, I ended up back with a staff title (no career/group change). Everyone said I was doing well throughout my career. But most of peers are now managers, senior managers, directors, controllers, etc. I really don’t want to compare, but how do I deal with this so it doesn’t bother me? Has anyone else been in this situation? I feel partly ashamed because all of the work I put in didn’t get me very far in my career.

Looking to transition into Tech Sales from Forex industry

I have 10 years of experience. Mostly in Unix, C++ and Visual C++ and MS SQL. I developed interest in cloud computing as like many others and was able to clear AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solution Architect Associate and Professional, AWS Security. Along with these I was able to clear 8 Azure certifications as well: 3 fundamentals, Azure Security, Azure Developer, Azure DevOps and Azure Architect.
Now my main question, can I try to switch on Cloud Architect or some other similar cloud roles?
