I’ve built a reputation as the reliable one. I'm dependable, steady, always the person who can “make it happen.” And honestly, that used to feel good. But now I’m noticing the downside: they load me up because they know I won’t drop the ball, while others skate by with lighter workloads. It’s like competence becomes a trap. I want to protect my boundaries without tanking my reputation. How do you break out of being the good soldier without being penalized for it?

Great to be in your position honestly. But you could try slowing the load by scheduling a vacation. Our group is pretty good about giving you a break if you do and communicate it well and that might help with distribution the work load. And then don’t volunteer for new matters/assignments, at least for a bit.

I also “suffer” from the same thing but it’s a good thing to be honest- your billables are solid and won’t need to be complained about to any higher up. You’ll probably need to take time for yourself, maybe doing work late nights so you can take a Friday afternoon for yourself

As a junior, how do you deal with the anxiety that the advice you provide to a partner based on your research (that is being sent to client without much supervision) could be wrong or incomplete?

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

Second year associate here who recently switched from litigation to corporate law. I am absolutely swamped while simultaneously having no idea what I’m doing ever and I’m feeling so burnt out. The partners are pretty great and feedback is constructive which I’m grateful for, but I’m so desperate for a compliment I’ve been saving any scrap of positivity in a folder 😭 it’s December 22 and I haven’t done my Christmas shopping because I don’t feel capable of thinking about it. I need a hug.

Advice Request: Started my career litigating. Switched to niche transactions (so about half and half at this point). Halfway through a year long sabbatical and reevaluating what I want to do (left before jumping to Senior associate). I’d like to get into litigation again in a practice group I don’t have experience in. Any suggestions on how to do this? How to approach firms and partners etc? Past 2 firms on my resume are top 30.

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.
