I’ve noticed a lot of lateral movement in patent litigation lately. Just today there was a big move from Winston to King & Spalding, and more recently moves from Latham to Cleary, among others. What’s interesting is that many of these moves seem to be down the Vault rankings.

Does this suggest that lower-ranked firms are paying up to build patent lit practices? Or is patent litigation slowly being pushed out of the traditional top-Vault BigLaw model?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. I work in finance and at this point I’m expected to handle closing documents, manage first years, draft some portions of major docs, etc. I feel like I’m always frazzled, constantly second guessing if I handled something correctly and anxious to answer calls from clients/OC. Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. (1/7 3am) we're 147 hours into the new year and I've billed about 60 hours (40%) already. 2022 off to a strong start, y'all.

Why do firms fire people with low but still profitable hours? I am in my first full year on track for pretty low hours (~1500) but the actual realized fees (after writedowns) are still double my yearly salary. Is it because firms know they could replace someone like me with an equivalent attorney who would bill more?
