It's good to have an impressive history, but anyone hiring you isn't bringing you on to tell war stories. They want to know what you can do for them tomorrow or next week or next month. So the more current material should be what you highlight, with the inference that you can walk right into a new job. If you did something impressive some time back, or worked at a noteworthy company at a critical time, slip that in somehow, but don't dwell on it.
That makes sense. Highlighting current skills while weaving in past achievements seems like a good way to show immediate value without dwelling too much on history.

I think the strongest angle is past achievements that prove current skills. Anyone can list skills, but showing where you used them well is what makes them believable. The best resumes usually connect both.
Agreed. Demonstrating how past achievements translate to current abilities really helps make skills credible and relatable for the role.
