You will get $0 bonus for the work specifically but this should help your promotion case if you can show this type of sales pipeline/conversion. Also 1MM is good but if I remember at EY it was ~3MM expected for M and 5+ for SM
This is a good start, keep up the work and use this to network/connect both with client and practice leadership to make this a recurring thing.
Good luck!

I can’t help but notice how much the younger crop inflates their roles in claiming successful outcomes!

Welcome to being a senior consultant/manager? $1M is pennies
Update: thanks for the comments/feedback everyone, really helped me shape the conversation/ask with our MDs. Our leadership team is working to develop a spot bonus and EOY bonus based on work sold. Said my ask is not out of line based on the effort that has been put in to source and close this work (also got feedback this puts me on track for promotion conversations). Appreciate you all fishbowl community!
I love a happy ending! Well done OP!

You can’t really retroactively get a bonus.

Definitely mention it for your performance evaluation, but no - most consulting firms do not operate with direct commission.

For sure - I sold a few opps I found since I was promoted to SC 6 months ago. I expect it to also buy me a great raise/bonus. Also confirmed i have leadership support for my promo to principle (manager equivalent) during the mid year cycle in 6 months. SC->M in 1 year seems like a fair reward :).
So I get all that on top of a spot bonus. I think it’s a great program. I’m personally a lot more motivated to speak up about opps. Doesn’t need to be a crazy amount to have that effect.

Ok?
I’ve sold close to $10 million this quarter alone.
It’s part of the job
Not at SC level. He went above and beyond for his level.

Good job, but you're SOL on that bonus unless your firm has some sort of referral / new work bonus program in place.
Thanks!
You have lots of feedback here not sure I’m adding much but I’ll share anyway.
First, that’s awesome. Selling is hard so congrats!!! And keep the relationships, they pay dividends
On the referral side, not sure where you work but if it’s a B4 no one gets them. As a PMD I just closed a $15M deal and get $0. It’s part of my role and expectations to sell. As others have pointed out, if you keep this trend up it will help with faster promos and increased comp over time
Congrats and keep it going
Thanks!
What's your role defined as? My guess is your sales will help you get promoted faster, which is a good thing. Bringing in work was always part of the job in most consulting roles that I have been aware of.
Oh man, yeah it was more evenings and weekends to get these closed. Still delivering great project work. High quality work and high quality client relationships go hand in hand.
At our firm you’d get between 2.5% and 5% of net fees if you really were as instrumental as you say you were. But it’s only for new clients, not unlimited and not for follow up work
Thanks that’s really helpful. These are all new clients to the firm.

Your base case is to make it into a promotion case. Be careful not to overstate your contribution / step on partner toes. All you need to do is show that you have shown leadership in driving sales.
Thanks!
That’s impressive for an SC and should help you make a strong promotion case. Your bonus would probably just be a merit increase.
I did something similar years ago and the partner gave me a spot bonus of a few grand. I was an associate at the time. It wasn’t directly tied to the win but more so for good work all around.
Thanks!
I’d try to negotiate a raise and discuss promotion trajectory
Everyone is part of teams that pitch and close deals, but it’s rare for someone short of a partner to bring in the relationship
That kind of lead selling capability is valuable and your partners know it. Other firms know it.
Folks with the kinds of relationships you’re discussing, that can also deliver great work, rocket up the ladder and you should aim high
Would they have hired you without your firm’s resources? No? Then you weren’t the selling point. You can work in car sales if you want direct commission

If your firm does $15M, you do indeed “sell cars” for better or worse
If you are looking for a direct correlation between bringing in business and reaping the rewards, start your own business. The risk profile will be higher, but you will have more control on your outcomes and money you bring in the door. If you work for a big consulting company your contributions won’t directly move the needle on your bonuses. You will have a range per level and your overall performance will influence where you land in that band.
