If you'll be making that much more, and assuming you really want the new role, just forfeit the bonus. It'll sting to leave money on the table but you'll still be coming out ahead. If you insist on staying for the bonus, the new employer may read that as a bad sign and cut you loose. Doesn't seem like a risk worth taking.
Never leave money on the table.
It’s so funny they need the role “right now” nothing at JPMC is that time sensitive. If they really wanted you they would wait.
Exactly!
Negotiate a start date it’s a risk usually background checks in banking take a while. If they want you enough waiting an extra 4-6 weeks shouldn’t be a deal breaker.
They are only keeping their best interests in mind you have to do what’s best for you. You’ve earned the bonus with the current company.
I had a friend in similar situation different big bank they waited 3 months bc she was the right fit for the position
With my math 45 appears to be higher than 20 just saying
This is a tough one. I would take the new job if that is where you want to be.
I dont know who you are leaving, but JPM is not a good place. I would let your current employer counter offer.
I recommend asking JPMC to match the bonus you’re forfeiting in the form of a sign on bonus. Companies do this all the time and they can. If they don’t then that’s also something to be mindful of about the company you’re joining.
Ask for a sign on -
If you don't want it, I'll take it. By not taking the position when offered, you are signaling to the hiring manager that you really don't want it.
I could make the argument that I know my worth. I got this role because I created a program that can’t be replicated by many people so I’m signaling to them I won’t play their little game
Carpe diem
Just tell them you want a sign on bonus equal to what you would have gotten had you stayed at your current company. If they want to hire you they'll pay it. If they don't want to pay it on cash then maybe they'll do restricted stock units or options.
