Junior here. Made a most likely inappropriate move during the interview process. How do you survive self anger/humiliation?
I directly email the interviewer by guessing their email address. Realizing how stupid my move was just now.

Just take a deep breath and realize this probably doesn’t matter at all, and even if it does, it’s much less than the catastrophe you’re making it out to be. You’re gonna be fine

Pretty much everyone has their email listed on the website so I don’t think the recipient would think twice about how you got their email.

like

I see. Kind of a weird move lol.

Why is this bad

like

OK I suggest you don’t overthink it, you have no way of knowing if they think it’s resourceful or weird or whatever. Please do something to distract yourself !

likehelpful

Clarification. All you did was email them?

like

Yeah. Or they'll just assume you asked someone for it as a follow up. Literally will give zero thoughts to this. Now if the email was unprofessional or says something otherwise dumb, then that's more cause for worry.

likehelpful

Absolutely no one gets upset when they receive work related email at their work email account.

If you sent mail to their home or somehow got their private cell, that’s a little creepier.

You sound like you struggle with awkwardness so I’m assigning you some homework. Every single day you need to strike up a conversation with 2 random strangers in public. They cannot be a retail employee assisting you. Duration should be at least 2 minutes.

like

I usually give my card out after an interview. Assuming you emailed to say thank you?

like

Did you get in right? I would just assume it was on the interview materials somewhere

like

Probably, didn’t receive any error email

Most interviewers expect to receive email outreach after an interview! It's considered good-candidate behavior. Don't lose sleep over this. Go check out YouTube or LinkedIn videos for affirmation that it's not considered. creepy.

like

What happened here and why was it bad? You get a bad reaction? This very possibly may not be as bad as it now seems. Let me know.

like

Who told you it was awkward and off-putting?

like

I think this shows initiative and research skills, which every company wants

like

So somebody received a thank you email after interviewing somebody? Stop traffic

funny

Unless you said something weird in the email, sending a follow up thank you email for the interview is customary and imo expected.

like

I don’t think this is weird especially, depending on what you said.

What did the email say?

like

You’re fine, don’t worry about it. Any follow up would likely just make it weird.

like

I interviewed someone once who, when asked what animal they would, be picked their animal based on its sex drive. You’re fine.

funny

It was quite telling… I use it in every interview now.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?
