Portland Maine is great!

If you can afford it, i would do 2 smaller places. One in New Hampshire and one near Tampa, FL. You get all the tax benefits. NH is perfect in late spring, summer, early fall. Then you spend the rest of the time in FL. Live the retired dream an extra few decades

So they do. LLC distributions apparently are taxable in NH. Thanks for this, A3!

The Midwest! St. Louis, Detroit, Minneapolis— I know they’re not the sexiest cities but they are cheap and have incredible food and a tight knit community.

likesmart

Metro-Detroit here! I agree it's super cheap. I have friends who are transplants and they do a good job of putting themselves out there and making friends and looking for activities to do in and out if the city. Summers are amazing. Not too hot, not too cold. Friends live on inland lakes or have boats which makes for fun weekends. Winters are brutal. That really bleak period of winter January-February almost put me on antidepressants because it's so dark and cold. Fall is absolutely stunning.

@RSM1 my social group is very welcoming. Like there's a new guy who is an expat from Brazil that works with someone who was already in the group and we've welcomed him with open arms. I think it's tight knit as in were very loyal but we're also "midwest nice" so we are kind to others unless they give us a reason not to

Can’t believe no one has said Las Vegas/Henderson. Cheap housing, low insurance and prop taxes and no income tax.

I would add Indianapolis to the Midwest recommendations.

@RSM1 While Tampa may not be “LCOL” amongst the entire population of metro areas, it is amongst the places that I’d recommend as a minority.

You’re not getting a lot of real answers here so I’ll help you OP:

As others said, Midwest is quite nice if you can handle the cold winters. Minneapolis/Milwaukee/Madison would all be great choices. Also consider Ann Arbor.

Similarly I’d look on the east coast in places like Asheville, Raleigh, Durham, or even closer in like Chattanooga. I’d also throw in Kansas City

like

NC native here & can't say enough good things about Asheville & Raleigh/Durham. Wouldn't consider these cities LCOL though, maybe medium? Housing is extremely competitive in those areas rn. That said, plenty of smaller cities are worth checking out in NC like Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point

like

Are you just trying to save? In this instance, I would follow my heart to live near the coast or the mountains. It doesn’t have to be an expensive tourist y place but go somewhere lovely

Do you feel that in SEO there are too many ways of conducting the same tasks. I was making $40,000 as a developer (plus 20k stock options at $1/share per year) and they refused to pay me any more money. I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I’m a bit confused about share dilution and if it’s worth it for me to buy some of my stock options… thanks in adv!
