Just got a job in the house at a local government agency my previous job was in a rural municipality I did primarily contracts there as I will do here but the pace was incredibly slow and it was not super sophisticated. Also because of covid I ended up just not really talking to people for a long time. Any tips on ways to make sure I succeed? I'm particularly worried about the logistics of gathering requirements for contracts from stakeholders.

I hear you on the lack of speaking to people. I would say that if this position requires more communication, it’ll take a while but you will get used to it. I prefer not to talk to people mostly and kind of experienced the same when I started my position, but as I got more comfortable with the work, I got more comfortable with speaking to people at work. If you will be doing different work or different contracts than you were previously, my main piece of advice would be to get comfortable with being uncomfortable for a while. It will take some time to find a groove. I started finding a groove after a year.

I am scheduled to fly from NYC to Mumbai via Paris next Wednesday (Jan 5) for a ~10 day trip. Have any of you, your family, friends, etc. flown a similar route (I.e. from US to India via Europe) in the past week? If so, what is the arrival process (Covid test, quarantine requirements, etc.)? I’ve had all recommended vaccine shots and I’m only in Paris for a 2 hour layover (not leaving the airport). Any information on this would be greatly appreciated!

I have been working remotely since covid getting nothing but positive reviews. My company is not remote friendly and is now telling me I have to return to the office or I lose my job. I just found out a co-worker had a remote position created for them, without a job posting, without an interview and without the experience required (normally a license or certification would be mandatory). I understand life isn’t fair but is there an ethical problem with this?
