Over the course of my 26 years teaching, I've only experienced the death of a student that I personally knew. I am always struggling with trying to navigate the appropriate response. I want to acknowledge the loss, but I often don't know what to say.

like

like any other student death
However if it’s more than one in a school we’ve got bigger problems

And how do you cope with that? Some people do not know how to cope with the loss of a student, let alone to something that threatens their existence daily.

I agree with Pennsylvania - like any other student death. It put my anxiety into high gear (even though the student died 4 years after I'd had her), and I've had an extremely hard time with anxiety ever since.

I have ADD and this job is the first time my struggle to pay attention / notice the little things has really impacted my day-to-day. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to work on / improve this?

My partner is still out of work from being laid off due to COVID and made it to a final round interview that he thought went well , and got a denial email this morning. I was so excited to finally not feel so much financial pressure as his unemployment is stalled, but I just feel terrible, like this will never end and start to impact our relationship because he can’t pull his weight with the bills. Plus, I have a presentation today and just feel so distracted — an awful awful morning.

How long should a creative stay at an agency?

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

Yoga nidra is my new favorite self care. I sleep deeper, and it doesn't deplete my precious energy. No side effects or injuries, either.

I love Mindful Movement on YouTube, and she has a yoga nidra vid. Audible also has some, I love Dare to Rest by Karen Brody, and the free one Practical Yoga Nidra by Scott Moore is good too.

I’m concerned about the surge in omicron. I packed everything, just in case. Q2 is ending, a new quarter is starting. We get new kids each quarter as a Specials teacher.
It’s stressful at quarter changeovers.
In going back after break, it’s too much of a contrast. I cannot sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night, “for the day”, about 6 nights a week. To stay structured, I go to “Surrender yoga” daily. I’m good to go do 1 more thing after yoga. I feel accomplished. Couching causes anxiety.

Teaching has taken over so much. I’m a wife and mother and still have a home life, but there is nothing outside of work and home. I have no friends, no other activities, no escape. Covid restrictions do not help. I know it’s not healthy to only focus on everyone else, but I’m not sure what to do about it. I have only sporadic time opportunities and I don’t even know what I enjoy doing anymore. When trying to do other stuff I can’t turn off mom or teacher brain.
