First of all- Congratulations! I told my principal and my students. So if I got sick, they understood
I think you should do what's best for you. If you trust the principal then be upfront about needing breaks. Don't do it via email but rather go in to meet the principal in person. She or he could arrange for a staff person to briefly cover your class while you step out. It's better than throwing up in class or having people speculating about why you need the break. If you have a good rapport with your class you could have students to take over some responsibilities in class and have them be more independent. You could even appoint a few "secretaries" to put up your bulletin boards, straighten your desk and return class work so you can rest your feet a bit. Keep your legs elevated when you do instead of a 90 degree angle.

I agree with you 100%. Although some people feel like one should be secretive, I always feel like transparency is the best course of action.
Congratulations! Of course you should let people know what's happening. It's a medical issue, there's no need to keep it a secret. Definitely let the principal's office know about it just in case you do need to deal with it.
I totally understand your hesitation. I kept it to myself for as long as I could, but by the time I hit the 7-week mark, I was definitely in need of extra breaks. I ended up talking to my principal early on, and they were super understanding. I think it helped that I made sure to have a plan for how I would handle things, like having someone step in if I needed a quick break. It takes the pressure off a bit and shows you’re still committed to doing your best.

It's always good to have a plan. I always think transparency is so important. So many employers feel like people are not being upfront or honest if workers are "keeping" things from them.

You have to go with works best for you. It is always nice to have someone in your corner who can support you when you need them.
Huge congrats!! I would hold off saying something as long as you can. Generally it's good to wait 12 weeks to get through the first trimester and the high risk period for miscarriages. Good luck with these next few months!
When we need a bathroom break we just call the office and someone comes right over. Hopefully you have the opportunity to have a break when you need it. That just seems like human decency. If you have nausea you might need to also have a bucket handy. I wish you the best.

It is an exciting time. I hope you are fortunate enough to have people who are supportive. I agree with the bucket idea, though. 😃
Congratulations! It is an exciting time for you! I was honest with the admin in my building when I was expecting- both times. My co-workers were very supportive! Enjoy this special time! It goes by fast.
Congrats on your pregnancy although I think if you don’t feel good you should call in sick and get a real sub. It’s a hardship for other teachers to cover your classes when they are already swamped & don’t need extra stress themselves. Teaching is a lot different these days and just calling in sick is harder for a teacher than just showing up sick & I’m sure you are well aware of that. Honestly knowing that finding subs is a hardship do you think it was a good idea to get pregnant in this field? I’m seeing a lot of younger teachers not choosing to get pregnant because they know the hardship it will create on fellow workers.
I once swapped my prep time with a teacher who needed to get her kid to practice. The same can be done for doctor appointments. Arrangements can be made to benefit everyone.
I told my school as soon as my morning sickness became all day sickness. I tried not to miss whole days, just 2 hours here and there for appointments, but you do what you have to do.

Most administrators are going to be understanding when it comes to pregnancy (unless they are just jerks!). Thankfully there are laws in place to protect workers if they have pregnancies, illness, or even need to take a time off for mental health.
