That’s gross, not net. It’s also very difficult to be 100% utilized when working that type of hourly job, there will be slow times when income isn’t coming in. No pay during vacations and holidays either. Loss of wages during significant travel between jobs (unless invoicing for travel expenses). Self-employment taxes, on top of normal taxes, if they are sole proprietors. Liability insurance and uncollectible debt are a pain.
Is this what it made you think?
If you’re good with your hands and detail oriented go for it. You can always come back if it doesn’t work out. Good and honest handy men or contractors are hard to come by. Just keep in mind that if you’re detail oriented, it’ll take you longer to complete projects (not to mention the first few will take longer), but if you’re new charging higher prices may not be an option until you build your clientele. If you can find a property management too work with, that may keep you busy
Then you’re bad at math
got tools? Skills? 50 a day for parking and potential cancelled jobs? Insurance? Health care when you get hurt? You ready to work at 6am - physical labor? Do you have a van?
Dang is right
I’m being reactive bc too many ppl think someone else’s job is a cakewalk
Made you stop and think about what? They have skills and equipment. They also have to go on site. You sit in your chair and probably make more

Maybe so. That's what I'm thinking through. For now I'm to busy working over time to think about anything else.
My husband is a carpenter contractor /remodeling contractor…..believe me you aren’t working 40 “billable” hours a week. You are going to Home Depot to pick up materials on nights and weekends, all the projects you spend your time pricing out and bidding, only to learn they went with someone else, no paid vacations, very little work from Thanksgiving-Christmas and throw in the cost of tools, vehicles and insurance, if you can get 30 billable hours a week, you are doing good.

Yea good point. Although I did work 14 hours today and won't be paid any extra for that. Someone is getting the money, just not me. Maybe I'm just anxious to strike out on my own at something.
I made more money as a Refrigeration Mechanic than I make as an audit manager. I also worked way more.
Dude I’ve been quoted $250k for a 2 month remodel…. I audited the materials and the materials only cost $20k max. Some people even pay for that price. Trades is where it’s at.
Listen - on the very low end a kitchen remodel is going to cost $40k, master bath $20k, other/half bath $10k, roofing $20k, whole house of drywall $50k. That total could be double if you go premium everything. Unless you are a general contractor or hire friends in the trades, anything less is going to be poor quality.
My best advice - ask if they’re interested in doing any of the work as a side project. It might take 4 months to do a bathroom but they might accept a fraction of the quote
Try some of the $1,000+ bill rates in B4 consulting and you may feel better about the $85 rate.
Something to think about…. Every financial firm needs to have a financial operations principal. (securities industry). In order to work as such you either need a series 27/28. Many smaller firms cannot afford a full time FINOP, so they contract out.
Same is the case for other supervisory roles such as the series 24, 53, etc. These contractors can make anywhere between 50-200/hr.
Something to consider…. Take a semi sabbatical to gain experience, go work for a regulator such as FINRA, SEC, or your State Regulatory body that regulates stock brokerage and investment advisory companies. Do 2 years and then, hang out a shingle and work for yourself or find a company that specializes in fractional supervisory principal assignments. You won’t make as much at that company, but you will have to market yourself less to individual companies.
My handyman charges me $35 an hour
Ya my guy is better than any of the other guys charging me $50+ an hr lmao. It’s hard to find a reliable and trustworthy handyman nowadays.
Received two quotes for some work on my new build; both continuously rescheduled to the point I told them I was going with a different person. Reached out to my guy and asked for a quote (without mentioning the other quotes) and he did the work for less than half the price of the other people. Also didn’t reschedule/cancel once
