Just saw a tv news report about an updated study that says listening to music helps with your concentration. They key is to listen to the same music so it triggers your mind to focus. Does your playlist help your thinking or just helps pass the time?

I didn't know about the research, but I do listen to the same musics every day to work. It helps me focus and makes e engaged/excited in the same time about boring work. I like because I sing along as well, on my head of course!

smart

For me, it’s instrumentals. Lyrics shift my focus to the song and not the work. The science makes sense to me because certain tracks get me to focus more.

The problem with this is that I need to start a brand new playlist or something because a lot of the time music I already have listened to distracts me and misses the mark when it comes to triggering my mind to focus, triggering it to be a mess instead! I have noticed certain kinds of music makes a difference when I do want to zone in to work.

After a while it just becomes pleasant background music. My work playlist has over 200 tracks which helps to mix it up.

I listen to meditation music and very repetitive sounds to help me lock-in. Music with lyrics will distract me every single time and so I don't even try with that anymore. I do love meditation music, however, because it helps me focus and also keeps me calm.

Same. I find lyrics distracting.

I think I'm just not wired to listen to music while working. I have friends who swear by it, but I just find it distracting. I love music, but if I have to think about what I'm doing I'd just rather have silence, or even just office buzz. Music just draws my mind too much into it and makes me prone to zoning out on work or making mistakes.

There are times when I play white noise. You aren’t actually listening. It tunes everything out.

Well, I assume the study wouldn’t say listening to podcast has the same results? But I have to have some kind of background noise whether it’s listening to my playlist or podcast just something to keep me from thinking about life. A distraction to keep me focused. I use the same playlist over and over again, but it’s got like 2000 songs on it so I’m not hearing the same songs all that often. But I think it works for me

The news report was more like a blurb about the study. I think you’re right that it’s about the right background noise that gets your mind to focus.

I’m sober curious. I’m also about to help a new non-alcoholic spirit company with their launch.
I have a question for people in recovery. If a brand were to contend that sobriety is a spectrum, or allow for that to a least be part of the conversation, how does that make you feel? Are other brands doing a good job of being inclusive of people who are truly sober?
(I get that NA drinks / spirits can be triggering for people in recovery)
Thank you.

Hi! I have been working in marketing and advertising for ~5 years and recently started exploring the freelance side of things. I started conversations with a small boutique studio about doing Facebook ads for them and they asked what my retainer fee would be to manage them. Since I’ve always worked for a company that was hired to do it I am not entirely sure what a freelance rate for that should be? I would love any insight. I’m certified through meta’s platform too if that matters.

So, recently got put on a PIP after six months at my new job., two days after I told my boss and HR I recently learned I have a cognitive disability caused by an illness. The PIP was mostly because I forgot some deadlines, but also they said I need to be more professional in emails (even though others use zero punctuation and a lot of emojis. To clients.) and simultaneously ask more questions and ask fewer questions. Should I just assume this is unattainable and look for a new job again?

I’ve heard mixed results about the ROI of earning an MBA. My near future goal is to move into a Marketing Director (or senior manager) role.

1) How much does Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. value MBAs in the hiring process?

2) Anyone currently working at the companies above with only a BBA?
