Walk in to your boss’s office and tell them you’ve seen it and you want it. Come with an argument for why you’re capable of it and why you would be a good choice for the agency. Ask what you’d need to do to get it now. And also ask if not, what do you need to do to get to that level. At the very worst it shows you’re ambitious and you’ll get feedback that helps you grow. Don’t be shy. Don’t ask, don’t get.
☝🏻don’t do that. You may piss your boss off and unless you’re certain you’ll get it you’ll come off looking like a pillock and with people assuming you’re dissatisfied at your level. Your boss makes the ultimate decision so it seems pointless to coerce them into letting you interview. Keep it DL.
Lmao I feel like that’s kind of a “don’t call us, we’ll call you” situation. If they didn’t ask you......
Announce to your boss and to HR that you would like to interview for the position. Using that language will lock them into allowing you to do it, and depending on your company it may open up a bigger bag of money for negotiating a new salary as well
I feel like I would trust the ecd in the thread over the strategist. But to each their own.
I manage 500 people. I deal with this about 25 times a year. I’d go with me on this one too
Start doing the job and then ask your boss for a review and say you’d like the role.
Whatever you do, do not apply to the position online. I knew someone who did that once and it did not end well.
I think SS got it right with their first response. Shows ambition and drive. Just be cool about it, and respectful but confident
SS1 coming in hot with good advice! Love it.
And “pillock”...mmmm that’s fun to say.
