Just spent four weeks going through five rounds of interviews for a commercial banking role. Final round went great… then radio silence. No rejection, no “we went another direction,” just ghosted. After all that effort, I feel like I got played. How do you not get totally jaded when companies treat serious candidates like they don’t exist?

You don’t. You should get jaded. Companies love preaching “candidate experience” until it’s time to send a two-sentence rejection email—and even that’s too much effort.

You can't take it personally, it's just the rudeness of modern businesspeople. Society in general has descended into a performative rudeness in the past decade, and the kind of crude behavior modeled on reality shows has become ordinary. It's like people don't even know how to show common courtesy anymore. There's no way around getting jaded and just losing respect for firms and the industry in general.

I don’t know how you don’t, to be honest. I brush it off when I don’t hear anything back for roles I apply to, a whole lot harder when you go in even for a single interview, let alone 5! Companies are just looking out for themselves, and we have to remind ourselves that this whole process is purely transactional.

That sux. I feel for you. Do what you have to get past it and just keep going. 100% way to not win is to not show up at the starting line (jaded advice but some truth to it).

Seems like hiring has slowed down but i feel we are in for another bout of great resignations due to companies calling it's employees back now and employees finding ways to continue WFH. The ones who get lucky continue WFH while not so lucky ones will start switching and startups and other mid level companies cashing in on the talent. Looks like it's the lull before the storm.

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). It’s a 4 year degree and under this I have my High School equivalent with the years I attended there. The education wasn’t mentioned in the interviews. Continued below.
