I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.
TC: 270K

Saatchi, Team One, RPA are all very chill places where a 40 hour week is pretty typical.
I don’t think RPA is solid at work life balance… almost the opposite. Maybe different accounts but from what I heard is old school af.
The best: Deutsch LA. You still get some late nights and weekend work but generally it’s been better than some of the other shops I’ve worked at in LA
The worst: TBWA/Chiat/Day LA. It did not have good work/life balance at all, but who knows maybe it’s better now from when I worked there. (This was 2 years ago).
The in between: 72 and Sunny & Anomaly is slightly better than Chiat.
Heard through the grapevine: Saatchi and RGA is decent work/life
You must be on the Kool aid account.
Deutsch has good hours? Since when?
Maybe it depends on the account?
Wunderman Thompson isn’t the best work, but they need writers and the work life really is not bad. Some good creative opportunities coming in and you could probably name your salary.
Hey CD1, I’ve just relocated to LA & considering applying at WT. Could you share more about the brands? I’ve heard the benefits are very old school.
