If you’re working at a hedge fund, even support functions earn well. Being a partner at MBB is not the only thing that shows you have “drive”.
Pass me some of that kool aid.
Jumping on this, Partners do not actually make that much compared to the broader market. I am at a big tech company, and here engineers and product managers with 8 to 10 years of experience can easily make around $1M a year when you factor in RSUs. I am talking about people on a standard growth trajectory, not the exceptional few who would make Partner at MBB.
Even in non technical roles, the pay is still very strong, and all of this comes with less than half the hours you would typically need to put in at a consulting firm to reach a similar level.
I left at an early EM level, and within a couple of years my compensation is already at an early AP level.
One question I keep pondering after leaving the firm is: why do MBB consultants collectively believe they are exceptionally well paid relative to the market, and that there are only a limited number of paths to reach this level of income? I think we have been in a bubble 😀
You didn’t talk about this during the interview process?
I did. But at the time I thought I was ready for the ambiguity
I left M to join another consulting firm long time ago. Then after 10+ years consulting, I joined the industry, still engaging companies like M, BCG, EY for consulting work. It’s different challenge, both are not easy and require lots of hard work.
Ask Mck partners what do they make - not much
No they don’t. I hired 3 of them on my team this year
How long have you been at the new role?
3 months
