The article you shared aside, time reporting, doctor notes, time off/PTO requests, RTO, stealth security tracking tools to detect mouse jigglers and end-user productivity, badge swiping, personal performance tracking/PIPs — these are all things that can be seen as anti-trust, micro-managing, and unreasonable demands but are labeled as policy. Support the team the best you can and be realistic that no manager alone can fight the policy.
The issue with Elon's threats are that they're not coming from management. The administration is struggling in its court cases to explain what his role is, or who the actual administrator of this extra-legal department is. And let's be serious, this isn't about accountability, it's a threat in service to Elon's plan to dismantle parts of the government. So it can't really be compared to what happens in a normal organization with normal leadership.
And the answer to OP’s question is yes I had to submit weekly reports on what I’d done the week before. follow that up with quarterly or midyear reports for evaluations and of course, end of year reports for end of year evaluations.
This is the civilian world. It’s not the government world. Companies and agencies don’t even run on the same calendar!
