I joined UClub recently primarily as a means to have something I could do with my brother every week. I’ve found you get what you make out if it. They make efforts to introduce new members to existing, it’s also a big squash club so that is another way to make new connections (the pro can connect you with a member at your skill level). There is a good mix of people, but I think it does skew, naturally, 30+ given the emphasis on making sure families feel welcomed. Happy to answer any other specifics you might have.
U Club is more networking oriented IME
Realistically Boston's one big class system when it comes to social scenes and all depends what you're looking for and what you wish to accomplish.
If you're willing to spend $2,000+ annually and can get a referral (only way to join) The Quinn is THE hottest social scene in Boston located off of Newbury street and is a top tier club. It accepts only referrals, but includes Athletes, celebrities, Hospital Heads, Tech Entrepreneurs, and hosts many private events and is located in the history Algonquin Club building. Great for rubbing shoulders, dining, networking, and has a discount of around $1500 for people under 25.
Other than that tier 2 clubs are pretty much apply a join and not as circles focused or exclusive with the exception of some old money stuffy Beacon Hill social clubs.
If you're just looking to have fun, drink beer, watch a game or two for low membership cost or free you'll have better luck joining a softball or kickball league in Southie or Cambirdge with younger demographics.
Again it really depends where you're looking to fit in.
You have to know a member willing to give you one of their referrals. You get two a year
It's all about networking and making those invaluable connections for me so I always have a golf membership. The richest people just love their swings. But I also have nonprofit organizations that I work with for more of the likemindedness that's not driven by money
I recommend Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. They have a great team that holds events specifically for the younger group. Opportunity to volunteer (I think that is coming back soon) and get involved more widely.
Any names for clubs or societys that are open to younger members/worth it for the social/networking aspect?
Interesting. Been twice as a guest and seemed older crowd. Granted it was during the week both times
If you went to school here the school clubs might be an option as well. I’m 30 and a member of the Harvard Club and think it’s a nice place to hang out. I also have “gotten old” since I’ve been working and now 90% of the time prefer a quieter spot like that to a trendier bar so it fits me but isn’t for everybody (agree with comments that they skew to an older crowd). I’ve been to the BC Club with friends a few times and had a nice time too.
I think it’s worth it as I’ve enjoyed using the reciprocal clubs when I would travel for work (used to work at a less demanding firm). It’s priced quite well compared to some of the other options and has a ton of events and interest groups, some of which target younger members. I just moved back to the area after years out of state so have only been a couple times in my month back but when I’ve been it’s usually 1/4 or so under 35 with maybe another 1/4 under 50. However, there is now a coworking space the club set up for members so maybe weeknights and the free appetizers offered at Club Pub would draw more younger people.
DM me if you go on a tour and are interested in joining and I can put in a referral and get you 30% off initiation fees.
