Doing an average 130 flights a year for the past 14 years, the consistently worst airport experiences I have in the US are LGA, EWR, and JFK followed distantly by ORD and LAX in that order; CDG, FCO and LHR in Europe and in Asia MAA (Chennai, though they're working on it), SGN and SHA (Shanghai Hongqiao, way worse than PVG-Pudong, but they too are renovating). I've actually been to KTM, but only after the earthquake on a volunteer relief mission, and I can't imagine it was any good before but I gave them a free pass given what had just happened.
Lol how could anyone argue that LGA is a "reasonable" airport?? I've been to say 100 airports in my life, including in poor, developing countries, and literally nothing bats below its weight more than LGA. Mind you, it's been my home base airport for most of my life. But superlative statements on it I think are fair because you can make strong cases why LGA is either the absolute, or at least relative, worst airport in the US if not on Earth. The place is a post-apocalyptic nightmare.
It's where trump is from
ATL, CLT and DFW are reasonable for the volume of passengers they handle. LGA would still be a bad experience if it only saw half the traffic it actually does.
Having to read people bitching about NYC. Who ever bitches about Chicago, Atlanta or wherever else?

My doorman is a homeless person. There are constant drug addicts on my street. The sidewalks are covered in urine. And I live in one of the "nicest" areas in Chelsea. Moving shortly and not coming back.
lol LGA is not the worst airport in the WORLD. ever flown out of KTM (Kathmandu, Nepal) ?
@PwC2 you clearly haven't travelled much 😂 For the amount of traffic these airports face, they're more than reasonable.
I hate LGA as much as anyone, but certainly not the worst in the world. The worst in a major first world city? Yeah, it probably is.
K2 - True, but really the short answer to OP's question is: because you have to live in NYC.
So much planning and lead time required for getting somewhere you want to go. Have to walk for blocks just to get to parking garage, tip the valet, before I can get in my car and go. Then worry about parking wherever I need to go.
That still doesn't answer why you would drive the car to get places. This isn't Iowa. There is a reason the city built a subway system 100 years ago...
Well, didn't find a good price to sell the car upon having to enter the city and didn't just want to give it away.
New York is incredibly exhilarating and exciting at first, because of the culture and activities. After a while the high taxes, expensive and small apartments, difficulty of daily life, long hours...really makes you reconsider living here.
^ except that long hours have nothing to do with NYC; some of us don't need big apartments and don't mind paying taxes to support infrastructure, education and social programs. I don't know what specific difficulties of daily life but I find having to drive to get my groceries quite difficult; not having things open 24hrs, not being able to get delivery of food/wine/clothes etc as well. So as far as difficulties, they are very individual, wouldn't you agree?
Op I am afraid of signing a lease due to lack of job security in NY.
You have to live in NYC.
@PwC3 because they really aren't that bad? Plus, it's always a positive leaving NYC
EY3, I've been to over 30 airports in the U.S. (including all of the major airports in NYC) and traveled enough to earn platinum or diamond medallion every year for 6 years running, but sure, make assumptions. LGA and LAX are widely agreed upon as being the worst airports in the U.S., with LGA slightly edging LAX.
JFK, EWR, and IAD are up there, too.
