Question for yall. How likely is an offer once a company decides to do a reference check? I know I am in the final 2, from context clues in interviews. I just dont want to get my hopes up.

I spoke with a recruiter recently about a position in her company and before we even began talking about the job, she asked if I needed an sponsorship, I told her no, I dont need one. But she continued to press on the subject until I had to tell her I was a US citizen. I dont know why, but the whole conversation made me extremely uncomfortable. So my question is, can recruiters ask you about your visa/immigration status even when I told her I didnt need a sponsorship??

Four years out of rehab today. Mostly sober since I “graduated”. I want to switch and I have a very good offer with me. However everytime I think about resigning I get scared and I’ve this slight hope of something good happening in my current org. The culture and environment in my current org is very good. However I don’t enjoy the work I’m doing here.
