I would do a search test on the terms. I did this a couple years ago when the company had one name, but the majority had another and it didn’t get enough applicants. If you’re Apple or a few big companies, you can get away with it, but anyone else, I would stick to what it is normally called. “Fluff” titles don’t mean much, it’s what skills you’re looking for that is important: skills, past software.
Use PeopleGPT/LinkedIn for quick and easy market mapping. If you can show the title doesn’t not yield the type of qualified candidate you are looking for then stick to the internal title. The market mapping will help in showing the data to the HM on why it’s not worth it.
I should also add that the "fluff" titles come with comp over band by a decent amount and are wanted just to close candidates.
