Yep - the way I like to think about it is that the “generalist” digital consultants operate as translators between clients and technology folks/concepts. The “specialist” roles are focused on developing deep technology insight so they can bring the best solution to a specific problem that the generalists identify.
Thanks! Thats helpful
Supposed to mean that at least 50% of your time is spent on “digital” projects but lots of freedom on that. I once had a digital associate on my team and even the EM who staffed her didn’t realize she was from digital, she was given the same type of (not related to digital) work as the rest of us and treated 100% the same
MKs, how are the hours? And what’s B4 Manager w 8 years experience equivalent to? And more importantly, what type of work/ project role would be involved if Operations / Organization practice folks are staffed on the same projects as generalists? Eg I’m focused on op model design and culture/ communications rather than cost reduction analysis for example.

I’ll say I have a lot of friends that are in digital and other than having a different professional development manager than me I don’t see much difference at all. I believe it was mentioned earlier but I think something like 50%+ of your time is supposed to be spent on digital but again it’s basically the same

Yeah I mean you do have the ability to change paths but it’s not always easy. You need to develop sponsors and have them support it. But also so much stuff is digital now there’s tons of work

I’m talking solutions delivery role that’s CST (I think that’s what the acronym is?). How does it compare, and how hard is it to switch from that to digital integrative or generalist?
Theres apparently a generalist and a specialist track within Digital itself?

As for the BA vs ASC question, it’s all about your experience when you join, just like it is for generalists.
Out of undergrad or master’s: BA
Out of MBA, law, or PhD, or the above with 5 ish years of experience: ASC
Mentor
Nope. There’s BA and Senior BA but that’s only a tenure title and doesn’t really mean anything other than that you’ve been there for a while.
Both BAs and ASCs do they same thing on a study and both progress to EM next, ASCs are just expected to progress a bit faster

Mck 2/3 if y’all have more insight into digital specialist roles that are also client facing, I’d be curious to know how they fit in!
Basically long story short I have some networking coming up for people in McKinsey Digital but ultimately the goal would be to enter as a generalist. However I do have a technology background so trying to figure out how to approach it.
Although the responses here make me optimistic about the flexibility across to different cases
