Bad idea. Wait until you actually have some offers before bringing this up. The most supportive of managers may turn on you once they know you may leave and their hands are tied in terms of giving you more.
This is sound advice. Never mention anything until there is something concrete to consider. Interviewing could take a month from start to finish - and might not even amount to anything.
Wait...so you're going to tell your manager that you've got one foot out the door without actually having an offer in hand? No disrespect, but this is not the wisest idea. What if your manager says, "Ok, no problem. We are planning on making cuts anyway, so we'll just add you to the top of the list" and you have nothing to fall back on? I know you said your manager is supportive, but at the end of the day, it's business, and this isn't exactly the strongest market to be giving ultimatums. If you're truly unhappy, keep looking, go on interviews, entertain offers and once you've officially chosen and accepted one, THEN let your manager know. In other words, CYA.
Don't say anything to your Manager until you have an offer in hand. It just comes off as a threat and he may just decide to fire you then and there.
Work even harder so they’ll miss you more when you leave 😬
Never know how long it'll take to line up something right for you. In the event you're there through meet bonus season you don't want your manager having a reason to tank your bonus. Don't say anything till you have the offer in hand.
What are your thoughts on moving within the same company?
Reach out to somebody in HR / recruitment, you never know if something that’s being funded in the new year. You can usually find names in workday on existing job postings.
I think I would wait unil I had an offer. Even if your manager is supportive that doesn't mean they wouldn't stand with management over you. I would be careful with that.
Under a year?? Talk about other stuff…business as usual or maybe training to get you where you want to be.
Wait until you have an offer in hand. Not only does it minimize the risk of you being left without a job, it also gives you a better negotiation position. If your manager wants to keep you, you give him/her a chance to advocate for you wit HR using the competing offer as a benchmark.
Maybe?
Perhaps you should wait until after you receive offers. It would be the safer bet. Anyways, good luck on your new journey!
I just told my newly hired manager and my regional president...have no regrets. There not surprised because of how bad things are in NYC
As soon as you say you are leaving to work at another FI, you will be walked out. It’s the norm and standard across the Big 5 banks.
