Lots of companies are offering non-exempt full time hourly for senior positions (salary >$80K) lately, with the benefit packages are the same (including health insurance, bonus, equity, perks, etc) as exempt position. Is it a new trend or is it due to the turn over rate since the pandemic? For engineering field, this is quite common but for accounting/finance field, why would employers want to go this route since it will cost them more to pay for overtime?

Industry vets - in your experience how recession proof is insurance? I was not yet in the job market last recession but I watched my mom get laid off and struggle to find employment during that time for the next 1.5 years.
