Lots of in-house roles asking for very specific industry experience, even when the legal skillset is transferable. How strict are hiring teams on “industry match,”? Should I apply to roles that are strong match but in different industries?

It depends on how senior the position is. The more senior it is, the more important industry experience will be.

That’s true

I’m in pharma and would not hire an attorney without healthcare/life sciences experience. It’s too highly regulated to bring someone on without any of that experience, even if junior.

I guess Pharma is one of the areas valuing industry expertise the most

Some roles require very industry specific knowledge and experience especially when it comes to reg/product experience. You can learn on the job, but it take time

Got it

It’s going to depend — but a valuable skill is learning to “spin” prior experience. It’s all sales.

Thanks!

I got a job as a infrastructure consultant right out of college 3 years ago and later became a solutions architect at the company I am at now. I have a degree in CS and never really got the chance to use my programming skills (Java, python, Springboot framework). I’m finding that I’m not really in to platform engineering or cloud infrastructure and would like to pivot to software/app development. And suggestions on where I could get started on making this transition?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
