Manhattan must be really expensive considering that some cheap neighborhoods (ex. BRONX) are included as part of NYC.

The Bronx is not a cheap neighborhood unless you live in subsidized housing lol.

like

Geez that’s expensive. I have my share of complaints about Chicago and taxes, but rent is definitely way more doable here.

like

Also, just realized that California makes up 60% of this list. Crazy

like

The bronx is NYC.

like

The Bronx is not even close to cheap to live in

No Seattle?

Yes

And remember, this is just for a 1 bedroom!

Philly might be a dump, but I’m not paying $2k for a 1 br.

like

Lol Philly and NYC don’t belong in the same sentence.

like

OP, did you think NYC wouldn’t appear on this list for some reason? You sound surprised.

like

Paying over 3k to live in a one bedroom apartment in the city of the infamous “Pizza Rat” must be a joke.

I believe this is probably calculated including existing rental agreements not just the cost of new lease contracts.

This sort of methodology is why CPI has remained so low in the rents and ORE category because existing rents are factored into the total rents, so if only 10% of leases or new housing waere transacted in the past 12 months, even at a 30 or 40% increase, that would still only push up CPI for rents and ORE like 3 or 4%, and then that bucket does make up 40% of the total CPI, so a 30-40 jump in current market rent/mortgage costs only raises CPI by 1.2 to 1.6%. (All rough math)

like

Yeah and even with this Bay area salaries are 80k for next year, whereas NY seems to still be at 74k.
I've seen A2s in Bay at 85k (progressing mind you) whilst experienced associates in NYC make 76k.

I pay 4600 for a 1 bedroom in Brooklyn

Capitalism in full effect. The UK is costly but not this bad.

Well I recently told a guy I have been seeing I have HSV-2. We have not yet been physical but it’s been heading that direction. Man I hate this part - waiting to see what his response will be after he researches and talks to his doctor. I’m on daily meds which help reduce transmission risk. You’d think that since HSV-2 affects 20% of Americans and likely a higher % of gay men, there would be less taboo but it’s hardly ever talked about. Anyone else in my shoes? Or had it disclosed to them?
