compared with a role at a smaller mga, higher salary (around 30%) more , more visibility career wise and some great employee benefits , management seem to be supportive and low staff turnover

I see for many people the designation has changed but for me it's not. I was under the impression that the promotion happens after the mid year discussion or after the year end discussion.

I need some help. I have had a bad day personally. I’m trying to think of a first day virtual activity. I’m 100% online. I teach 10th and 11th Algebra 2 Honors. We are using Google Meets. I thought about doing a logic puzzle after the presentation. And I’ve also thought about starting notes.

Does anyone else have to wait until they have all assignments turned in for the day to start grading? I have Geom classes in the a.m. and p.m. and my OCD doesn’t let me grade as they are turned in.

How do you incorporate warm up/bell ringer problems so that kids actually complete the problems and not just use that time to socialize?

Thoughts on Engage NY/Eureka math...

I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

Anyone out there use Assistments? If so, what has your experience been?

I found using GoFormative’s free version to be very helpful in teaching new topics to my students. I embed videos I make demonstrating how to complete a question, next I ask them to complete an example showing work, and then the next question they type their answer so it automatically alerts them to see if they answered correctly. It can be used live in a meet and on an independent virtual day. In my google meets, I’m able to give feedback on any question they have trouble with in real time.

What are you doing with your students this week? School ends with a half day on Thursday and I'm doing worksheets all week and we're watching Elf on Wednesday. Trying not to feel bad about doing a movie day, the kids are tired and so am I.

It's lame but my only goals are to see my students ace their pre-christmas math "tests" and to spend some time over the break painting & setting up my 2nd bedroom.

Our math teacher has come under fire recently for how grades are collected. Daily work is worth 4 points. It is scored using a rubric. Tests are worth 100. Test corrections are worth 1/2 a point. There may occasionally be quizzes.

I’m teaching summer school at a high school, and the co-principals have asked me to focus on only 2 to 3 chapters worth (what they are calling “2-3 standards” in the eight days of summer semesters. However, they are also asking me to give kids the midterm and/or final at the end of each period, which covers 4-5 chapters each semester. My question is this: “Is it legal by California Ed code for the administration to ask me to teach less than each entire semester, yet test each whole semester?”
