Get Robin Hood. Invest in ETF of S&P500, MSCI World et al. Better than any savings account, you need some patience though.

You are eligible for Roth contribution at any income level. Google Back Door Roth IRA. Brand name brokerages will help you do it. Open a Traditional IRA for 1 day. Move $5500 in, then transfer it to Roth IRA. Be sure to close the Traditional IRA after.

Put 5-10k in an index fund. Historically, if you just mimic the index, you will on average make more on returns after 5-10 years than you would investing and bearing risks in average stock

FYI I posted a similar post and Reddit and got the advice that if you're saving for something in the next 3-5 years, you should put savings into a CD/HY savings acct. It seems like interest rates aren't going up anytime soon, so I think a CD or a few (CD laddering) might be the answer.

All about your risk tolerance. I'm happy renting for several years if the market (and 50% of my down payment) tanks tomorrow. My life wouldn't substantially change and I'd only invest more. When the market bounces back in 1-2 years, I'll be 🤑

Also should I have more savings accts for things that are longer term aspirations like a wedding, a house, etc.? Or just invest and pull out money when needed?

Probably your preference and time horizons. I have a few accounts for specific purposes (down payment, travel, emergency, etc), but you could lump together if you trust yourself not to allow scope creep haha I'd recommend your investments be entirely driven by the expected time you'll need your money back. The longer until the event, the riskier you can get. Start with broad-based ETFs and work your way into more sophisticated options as you have the due diligence time.

If you want to cover the loss of the Roth, look at a variable universal life policy, or something similarly tax advantaged

Im so confused by maternity leave policies and Reed can’t answer any of my questions. So, I can take 4 weeks before delivery and 6 weeks after delivery through California disability leave in addition to 12 weeks parental leave. If I deliver early, does it mean I have more time off after delivery? How about I deliver late? Another question, my due date falls on Christmas time, can I stop my disability leave and use holiday time and continue with the disability leave?

I've been working for a commercial construction outfit for the last 11yrs. Nine months ago I was promoted to a foreman position. The company has recently posted a PM position available. I immediately shot a text to the owner stating that I was interested in the position and that I would be sending over my letter of intent. His response was that he was hoping that I was interested in the position. It's a salary position. How do I go about negotiating a salary/benefits package with no experience?

Found out today that my gross pay of $240,000 yields the same take home pay as a couple that each make $100,000. Meaning I pay an extra $40,000 in taxes for the same takehome (my partner's in school and is not working). Is this fair?
From my POV, I've recently made the decision to move to the US next year for income+tax benefits.

Reviewing my 401K benefits of my new employer and it says no employer match until after a year of service. Thing is, this company will also likely split later next year. My group will be under the new entity from the split, not the current company.

What would you contribute to the 401K in my case? I was considering doing minimal in order to tackle debt first and set up my own investments through a brokerage. Then wait until the split is sorted to do more. Thoughts?

Hi all! New to fishbowl and looking for some advice! I currently have 2 bachelors degrees and a Masters in Health Sciences.
