Not withstanding the snarky remark above....
There is no difference between Generalists and Implementation in the factors you mentioned. Both streams do similar work (though implementation does get staffed on studies longer, but not always), have exact same learning opps, same promotion, exit opps, and the vast majority donât even know who is implementation vs who is generalists so no ârespectâ issues. The real difference is that implementation tends to be experienced hires who have âlived the problemâ and their training and focus is a bit slanted towards long term sustainability of impact
I see. It can be a mixed bag regarding the kind of relevant experience McK implementation looks for then? I believe this would be based on busines need - eg. Functional experience, industry expertise, etc
Basically, they charge more, and sometimes get a nice paycheck when they enable foreign governments to work against the interests of democracies. Very profitable!
Thanks M1 and M2! Iâm contemplating an offer from MI and had heard from some generalists that MI is â2nd class consultantsâ and that really threw me off.
Could you share what thatâs based on? Just trying to understand
Surprised there isnât a similar divide here to Strategy& and PwCâs Management consulting (pay & perception differences abound)
What can I say... there isnât. Frankly the name âimplementationâ throws people off... it has nothing to do with IT implementation and in the early days there was a material difference in progression (implementation did not lead to partnership)..... these have changed and since the last 3 years there is no difference between the two streams
Howâs WLB in implementation vs strategy?
It depends completely on the study and the leadership. Generalists and implementation consultants can get staffed on any kind of study. There really is no difference between generalists and implementation consultants other than the background of candidates entering the recruitment pipeline
