Mid level CFIUS associate. The group has two seniors. One bills an absolutely monstrous number of hours, and lots of M&A folk send him new instructions directly. It’s clear he wants partnership.

The other senior doesn’t bring in as much work or bill as much, but she just wants a permanent counsel role rather than partner.

Guess who’s been invited by the partners on a week long BD trip to east Asia? It’s been funny watching the drama, salt and snide remarks unfold over the past week.

Not even remotely surprised. The amount of #copium in biglaw ranks about what ingratiates you to partners hilarious.

Being well liked (for whatever the reason) will really take you far…

Skadden?

This post is so specific and unique that if anyone in OP’s group reads it, OP will be doxed. Would be funny to watch that unfold, too.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. I think I need to quit so I’m not fired for bad performance with a horrible reputation. Am I nuts and should I just wait til they let me go?

First year trainee here. Having the standard wobbles but generally surviving.

My question is - how can I tell if I'm doing well? More specifically, what common and avoidable mistakes (specific or general) do trainees make, and what attitude or actions impress you?

Recently overheard some associates complaining about another trainee and now I have the fear... I want to get this right. Thanks in advance.
