Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.
Should I stay or should I go?

It’s a fantastic school, no one will judge you for getting a degree at the same school, especially an M7

It’s perfectly fine to want to go to a different school for your MBA but there’s nothing wrong with getting it from the same school as your undergrad when your undergrad is MIT.
Nobody will think you look stupid buddy. More of an underachiever. Most MIT undergrads go to HBS or GSB
This response is dumb. If you enjoyed the school, got accepted, and would like to get a MBA - this is not dumb.
Humble brag?
KPMG 1, in Strategy, but there is no group at Accenture that would change my sentiment.
Lol other Accenture MIT undergrad here. I’m not currently considering MBA but I always felt like I didn’t want to do Sloan. Lots of weird feelings wrapped up in my time on campus as an undergrad + general attitude towards Sloanies from the rest of MIT. I’d probably try to get away from that if I could.
But in terms of career moves I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, unless you were 15 undergrad and want better networking opps

I’ve also helped out mba recruiting at a T2 consulting firm and a BB investment bank and have never heard of something like this being held against a candidate
I got my MBA at the same school as my undergrad and I was worried it would be too similar of an experience and I was 100% wrong. It was very different in a great way but with the school spirit I love. I think it depends on whether you already have a BBA from MIT but if not, could feel like a totally new experience. Professionally, no one will judge you for attending the same great institution twice.
At the end of the day, attend the school that has both the community and opportunities you want. Sloan is a well recognized, amazing program and if you feel like you can thrive there, absolutely go for it. Stick with your gut and don’t feel pressure to attend a “better” school; ranking isn’t everything - it’s about the kind of experience you want to have and people you want to be around (and stay in touch with) for two years. Something that helped me decide on my school is realizing that I would be disappointed if I didn’t get in - and I didn’t feel that way about other schools (inc HSW), which was unexpected!
Yea I actually disagree with the sentiments - I think it is a bad move from an experience and long term network perspective - especially if you can get into a similar tier school (e.g. Haas)
I went to sloan and I had some classmates who were MIT undergraduate also. If you like the MIT culture, no other B-school will give you something similar
I applied because they waived my fee and didn’t have to take the GMAT either. Spooling up to try and get a marginal increase in school quality, especially when I wouldn’t even apply to all 3 (I strongly dislike Harvard) seems like an inefficient use of time
Sloan is very different from MIT undergrad, but if you have other options, you might want to explore them - just to get more of a different perspective. GSB, HBS or Wharton might provide a bit more diversified experience. Either way, you are in a very good position.
You’re definitely in a good place to shoot for HSW if you wanted to, but I seriously doubt anyone will care if you went back to MIT
Yep, exactly. My long term goal is Corp dev or P&L ownership in the CPG / beauty space so I don’t envision needing PE / VC Cred. Tell me if I’m wrong tho
And not knocking Harvard it is just not right for me lol
want to bring me with you if you go? 😜
I had a couple classmates who were MIT UG + Sloan. Ideally, you'd tap into a different school to expand your network, but Sloan is a fantastic program. If it makes sense, then don't talk yourself out of it.
Might benefit from extending your network beyond MIT by attending another MBA program, but again if you love the school, no reason not to go there. Best of luck!!
