Volvo XC90.. Volvo is known as incredibly safe. Not cheap though.
I had an xc60 and loved it but when I needed bigger the price point was more than I wanted to pay.
Check out “The Car Mom” on insta and YouTube. Terrific car reviews from the vantage point of a mom with a focus on car seat situations. She’s terrific.
I was in a couple of bad accidents before I had kids and always wanted a bigger, safer vehicle when I started having kids. I drove a Yukon but recently upgraded to a Yukon XL. I love how big it is and is perfect for my kids and all their sports gear.
I second the Yukon XL.
Hyundai palisade
I’ve had it about 6 months and love it. I was a die hard sedan person before but now I’m not sure I could go back. The Kia Telluride was my close second.
Just bought a Genesis GV 70 sport prestige. I cannot wait for her to arrive. I’m leaning toward naming her Gatsby.
Get an “under car seat” mat. And don’t make the mistake I made with my last car when the kids were little (if you can help it - bc sometimes #survival), but to the extent you can limit kids eating in the vehicle,
that eliminates their number one source of destruction. Gatsby is here now. And she is epic. Her self driving and parking features have me wondering how I managed the old school way. Enjoy your baby and your Genesis. And don’t blink (as to baby) - if you blink on Genesis, the new models will probably teleport you within 5 years;-)
Love our Nissan Pathfinder!!!
Sorry to hear that!
Buick Enclave ST - it’s got sooo much room!
My sister has had enclaves for years. I second this. SUV outside. Minivan vibes inside
Loved my Chevy Traverse for 2 kids. Once we had a 3rd, I realized my goal of being an SUV/Crossover mom was silly and I was really jealous of my sister's minivan (we almost had to take 2 cars to the airport because we couldn't fit the kids AND the luggage...when my sister showed me her minivan trunk space, I drooled). When the opportunity presented itself, I gave my husband my Traverse and got a Toyota Sienna. Minivans are so ridiculously convenient!
I really love my Sienna. I've never driven an Odyssey, so can't really compare, I've heard they're really nice too. But my Sienna is awesome!
We have a Toyota Highlander. Going on 7 years and no issues. I'm glad you and your family are ok!
Also a Highlander here
Lincoln Navigator L--- but I have three kids and one with special needs so tons-o-equipment
I had a minor accident when I had my first and started having panic attacks driving. Subaru Ascent was my 40k Xanax.
MDX. Although a highlander would be okay too.
Tesla Model X, probably some people are going to say it is not a big car, but I gotta say sometimes when I’m exhausted and sleepy driving home from a kids birthday party, a play date, or a whatever trip with kids, the autopilot is a life saver when I had to pass an Apple juice box or paper towel from front seat to the back seat!!! No complain!! It is 100k+ miles and still going strong!
I did a Hyundai palisade, loved it but had an accident that totaled the car (would have been a lot worse if I had been hit in a smaller car); then, I got a Kia Carnival. Loved both cars.
Pathfinder. Drives easy like a car. Holds 7
Same thing happened to me. I bought my Palisade and I love it so much. It’s a smooth ride, all the bells and whistles, big enough for everyone to have plenty of room (my oldest is 6’ 4” and Hubbs is 6’ 3”).
I’m glad you are both okay! I swear by my Honda Pilot - on my second, actually. The last sales guy confided that it’s essentially the same in all meaningful ways to the Toyota Highlander and you really can’t go wrong with either.
We got in a double roll over off the interstate with our infant so this hits home for me too.
The number one thing you can do is keep them rear facing as long as physically possible. I like reliability and safety over the fancier less reliable cards. We switched from our totaled Toyota 4 runner to a Lexus GX 470. Great for two kids plus 3rd row. We got the premium with all the extra safety features like side mirror sensors and pre-collision system. I might consider something else. We have a third with bucket seat. Even possibly of them, but haven’t done the safety research on that one yet.
We are in a Tahoe and love the space and safety features.
I love my Infinity QX80. She has a beautiful V8 engine too!
