What’s your budget (initiation and monthly) and age (ie are you under 35 so you’re eligible for young exec memberships initially before you have to pony up the balance at 35)?
As of October/November:
Braeburn was 20k for under 35 and 80k full membership. Monthly was around 700 and 950 respectively.
Westwood was 15k under 35 and 65k full. Monthly 535 and 825. (It’s golf only so no CC amenities).
Not sure about the others but you’ll definitely want to choose one near where you’re living (there’s a saying that Houston is an hour away from Houston for a reason). Also, Champions requires a 14 handicap or better, which you may very well have.
River Oaks, Houston CC, Bluejack National, Lochnivar all have initiation fees in excess of 150k. Some of those are pretty impossible to get in unless you are very well connected and even then have a multi-year waitlist.
Join the Facebook group named Greater Houston Golfers and/or golfwrx forums as A1 suggested.
Pricing should be much better than the other options I’ve mentioned for either of these.
Golf Club of Houston previously hosted the Houston Open for ~15 years until a few years ago. LIV is playing there in June (absolutely insane to just a tournament in June heat) so expect their tournament course to be closed for maintenance for that. They have a members course too so that’s nice.
Clubs of Kingwood has 5 courses, which I’m pretty sure is the most in the area. It’s a part of Club Corp (called Invited Clubs now) so take that as you will. It gives you lots of options if you travel any.
In both instances, you really need to be living in that general direction if you don’t want to be miserable making the drive. The traffic heading north can be brutal from downtown/in the loop (same goes for south). Especially if you’re working big law hours—I’d tell you to pick the place most convenient to your house in pretty much all instances of the money doesn’t matter.
Might have better luck using golfwrx forums, they have country club threads that are quite helpful
In the meantime, Memorial is a decent course assuming you live in Houston proper. Wildcat not bad either
