My company just went global through an acquisition. I want to streamline all commercial contracts through our in house team, but don’t want to change processes without knowing what I don’t know! Our market includes government clients, so the contract is not always our standard paper. Any and all international contracting tips/guidance/warnings welcome!!

I would highly recommend trying to determine/review an existing contract that took the most time to negotiate/redline, and also review one (if possible) that is considered a high-profile client. You will probably be able to learn a lot from those. In my last endeavor to streamline contracts, I was lucky enough to have the actual redlines from some difficult contracts to see where the negotiations took place and why.

Good luck.

Our global company has different approaches for different markets, but we try to maintain consistency.

Meet with legal in the other regions and see what has worked and what hasn’t in the past, any sticking point that need to be improved.
Also look into a central legal intake process. You can have it be automatically redirected towards a region depending on the answers or manually reviewed by someone in the team—ie, if it’s marked as a governmental contract, it automatically goes into manual review; etc.
Which type of software/product is best will depend on your organizational needs, but the first step is always to meet with the other regions and get a feel for their work process first to find out what you don’t know.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I feel like what you're trying to accomplish is typically accomplished via a CLM. Usually they give visibility to legal and the contract owners about status while keeping the owners in control of the process. If that's what your looking for, we do a lot of outside GC work and could make some recs. Lmk

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients).
