I’ve never been asked for that information unless I’ve accepted an offer. And I’ve done a lot of contracting. I wouldn’t give that information out otherwise.
They aren’t being taught correctly. They want something unique. Usually only ask for day and month, and last 4 digits. Tell them they are not allowed to ask age.
The employers use it as part of submission to make sure you aren’t submitted by multiple recruiters. Sadly, the employers will usually hold the applicants accountable, and throw out all your submission. I try not to have mine submitted multiple times. But most times you can’t tell they are the same unless there is a req. ID. Many won’t even tell you the end client.
Why would someone ask you about that kind of Personal, Confidential Info when you are still at the stage of interviewing? In Europe there are enforceable laws that protect that kind of info.
It's so the companies can screen out duplicate entries. There are a lot of "recruiters" just submitting resumes. You should create a bogus MM/DD and four-digit number (asking for more than that is a scam) and use those consistently. Problem solved.
