I can relate to that for sure. What has helped me is finding a mentor outside my own team and setting really clear boundaries. It does not fix everything, but it makes the politics feel a little less overwhelming. I'd love to hear more ideas of what's worked for others though

I came into a place that was so dysfunctional it was wild. And I’ve seen some places over the years! I tired and tried to get things to turn around but it was ingrained in the culture. Ended up leaving and was so glad I did in the end. Still have some politics and nonsense to deal with, nothing like before though!

Honestly, I just try and stay out of the politics. I'm not interested in the drama or the back-and-forth. Maybe that's why I'm not in management, lol. Either way, life is too short to always be stressed out by small-time politics!

Honestly, politics is everywhere, and in every industry. You just have to figure out how to be happy in whatever environment you’re in. If you know who in your organization holds the most power, that’s the person you know has to like you… else they can make it hell…

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.
