I think that has been the hardest partRetoolinf all of your worksheets, activities, and visuals is time consuming. If you are getting some additional pay it doesn't really reflect the time you are putting in. This really is frustrating because curriculum is expensive and the school pay good money for it normally. However, I have never had any curriculum and was always expected to create my own and it has never been reflected in the pay or prep the in my schedule. This year while there is no expectation that the students have to complete specials virtually I still feel obligated to provide resources. This year feels a lot like my first year where I was always scrambling to put together all of the tools I needed for 10 different classes at multiple buildings! (I had a really weird position, but at least we get to repeat the elementary lessons.)
Does your master agreement state your minimum required prep/planning and meal time for each day? You might want to have a discussion with your union rep
Wish we had a union !!
Not sure where you are, but I have been told ( at the high school level) that when you are pulled from planning to sub for other teachers then you should be compensated. I don’t know what the ratios are anymore , but it used to be in the elementary level that if you work at least 60 percent of your time on the clock in your “content certification area” then the elementary admin can do what they wish with your additional time. I don’t think it’s fair and a lot of times specialists get pulled for tutoring, reading groups, enrichment, and like you said babysitting so that classroom teachers get extended uninterrupted time to meet with their teams to review data etc. I’m glad I teach at the high school level at this point since our planning is somewhat protected ( most days ) except for administering ACTs exams in other core classes snd the occasional emergency subbing when teachers call out at the last minute. ( this is another whole problem but....)
