Nervous laughter is a behaviour . You May need to practise a counter behaviour based on the triggers. Google a few habit breaking articles and try figuring out the most common triggers. Then you need practise breaking the older default reaction of nervous laughter. This May take a few months but is similar to any other habit. I just left compulsive eating so can tell you awareness helps self discipline. Best of luck!
Thank you! That’s a great tip, I’ll start from there. Congrats on breaking the habit! This gives me hope :)
Try to tone it down to just smiling
But thank you for your reply! :)
Why is laughing immature? Shouldn’t we all be laughing more?
Some day corps & consultants will learn to lighten up and we can all be a bit more natural. Until then, best of luck polishing your poise— like anything, it comes with practice.
M1, big difference between giggling and laughing. Btw I laugh a lot and sometimes at the clients situation 🤣
When you want to giggle, take a deep breath and smile instead. It’s a nervous habit, so use the trigger to create a new habit. Don’t nod - that turns into another habit that needs to be broken. Just a gentle smile and a calm, inconspicuous deep breath to help you focus externally on the situation at hand. You’re nervous because you think others are seeing how you’re feeling (nervous), but they’re not - until you attract attention by giggling. Breathe in for a count of 4, out for a count of 3. You’ve got this! The flood of oxygen to your brain will also help calm and focus you
Thank you! You’re spot on, I tried nodding as a counter behaviour and now I’m constantly nodding when people talk. I will try to stay calm with the breathing tips. Thank you!
In addition... I have really serious blushing issues and turn super red. It’s so embarrassing and I’m not sure how to get that under control
Thought I was the only one who struggled with this. It's so embarrassing but I can't help it!
