Offer from McKinsey BTO to join as EM. I'm a manager in big 4 up for promotion in a year. Should I take the offer? It's slightly junior (I probably won't get promoted to next level at McK in one yr)

Journey to partner may be 1-2 years longer but with huge upside potential. Also with just a 20-25k potential bump in one year vs instant 35k now. I would also suspect the bonus potential to be much more. Plus, doesn't count all of the additional perks (retirement, better/free healthcare, profit sharing, etc.)

Depends on whether you want to join the Firm. If you stay and get promoted in a year, it is unlikely you will be offered an AP role (up one level from EM). So then you are back to considering an EM role. @BCG - EM is partner track.

Anyone who did a similar switch at this level?

Keep in mind the lifestyle differences though and expect to be working longer hours and rebuilding a network/fitting into their culture

What's McK offering? And how much do u make now? Asking out of curiosity. Thanks.

What's the $ differential? And also, is it a partner track role?

It is a partner track role, however I think my journey to partner will be longer as opposed to staying here. Comp - 35k higher, but I'm expecting a 20-25k up in one year if I stay (promo related)

Thanks McK1 - agree with your perspective. Can you shed some light on: 1) what approx percentage increase in salary can be expected after first year? 2) What would be the average time for someone like my profile (experienced manager in big 4) to move through EM and get promoted to AP?

I work pretty long hours already, don't think I'll have a problem if it's even more. The key challenge right now is I'm learning a lot more about firm politics and selling (which is great), but the project work (topics) I'm working on is not getting me excited anymore (not cutting edge stuff)

If you are staying in consulting 100% for sure then I'd take the fastest path to Partner. Once you make partner you can always jump. If you're considering anything else, go to McKinsey.

Anyone below manger would hop without a second thought. This is like comparing state school to Columbia. Go to McKinsey, easy call. Worst case you go back at a premium in a couple years.
