Now, just imagine that you have to deal with this type of hostility nearly everyday. And then people have the nerve to tell you that racism isn’t a problem in America. This is why minorities are angry, this is why people kneel during the national anthem.
Mck1: It's easier because as a white male the bigot can't dismiss you based on some other bigotry about why your opinion doesn't matter eg "eg she's just a mouthy bitch," "what does he know, he's probably just some illegal anyway", etc. If you're a straight white male and not bring an ally to minority groups, reconsider that position, you have the power to connect and make people reexamine their bad behavior.
As in older bigoted people rarely expect a white male to call them out on their behavior (because white men rarely do) and thus makes it more powerful
The truth is many middle aged and older white Americans behave this way. There will never be real progress until people take ownership of this issue and call their friends and family out on their ignorance and hatred.
It was insane. Older couple gets on and the woman says, verbatim: "It is SO HOT in here, you foreigners especially the darker ones like to keep things hot, don't you? You're crazy." Btw, it wasn't hot. Those of you in NYC know that it's raining like crazy and just muggy bc you can't open the windows. The heat wasn't on or anything, it was fine. The driver actually kept a lot calmer than I would have and didn't engage.

Agree with KPMG 1, and there are many awesome white males who stand up for others. I would have said something quite nasty to her! And endorsed a report if the Via driver was willing to make one. Would also solicit and encourage other witnesses to do the same
^very true. I kicked up my calling out of problematic white people a few years ago and have seen my family's behavior change because of it, for the better.
I wrote to via detailing this incident. Considering the fact that their business model is dependent on having a courteous contingent of ride sharers people like that should be kicked off the platform because they're ruining for everyone. And yea, it was interesting that they were older because their tone of voice was very like, "I'm entitled to saying non PC things, but just take a joke and I'm older, it's fine." The driver tried to steer the convo away and asked them nicely about the baby shower they were going to, and the woman literally escalated it and said, "You people also like to wrap your babies too warm, because foreigners think it's good for the baby and it's not." She was fucking nuts and would NOT LET IT GO. I was hungover and going to meet my friends for brunch and totally shocked by the whole incident.

I'm a minority woman and I was just quietly sitting there aghast.
We just need a plague that wipes out all the stupid fucking people.
A little annoyed that people are only referring to white people as being intolerant. I’ve seen reverse racism too. I’d love to see people talking about increasing tolerance generally. Anyone who has a bias based on race is regressive!

@OP another minority female here. You really should have said something. That is so not ok. You don’t have to be white male to have the courage to speak out. We all have powerful voices.
