Don’t listen to the whole “buy don’t rent” pitches, they don’t apply to everyone at all times in life. That rental sounds great and like you deserve it live there for a year and it’ll help you decide if that kinda place is where you wanna keep on living or if there is another neighborhood/type of building you may like better for next year.

like

Live it up, you only live once, but one suggestion I will make is possibly looking into anthem city line apartments, a friend of mine used to rent there before he moved to the DMV, which is where I am from. I thought it was a great apartment cheaper than 2100 a month, look in to it, they have the ceiling to floor windows that you were referring to as well. But all in all do what makes you happy.

Would get approved, is fine and within range.

$2100 = “LUXURY"... Only in Dallas brah 😉

like

Stay in the Bay Area and definitely don’t move!! Texas bad!

I pay $2500 on the 32nd floor, same description. It gets old fast tbh, but you should definitely experience it

like

The lifestyle and everything that comes with it is great, but I get tired of looking at the same thing. Just like a new car, it gets old. Being so high up is a pain in the ass to leave as well when going down the elevator. But it’s a catch 22, you need to experience it to get tired of it first. I was in the same boat as OP, wanted to splurge bc ive been frugal but I realized I’d rather spend the $2500 in the market and get a house instead

Buy, don’t rent

I did 2100 per month is Austin making 90k with 1200 per month in student loans, maxing 401k and a 500/mo car payment. You can do it!

like

Yea that’s my bad.

It would be approved, I would do it! Sounds great

like

Have some fun and enjoy it. You'll be fine.

$2,100 could get you a mortgage payment on something that has 3,000 square feet inside and over 10,000 outside. And you build equity.

Dude my Jewish grandma uses that expression all the time, relax

Houses are way over priced in the south right now. People bidding 50-100k on top of asking price...I'd wait it out.

Definitely would get approved. I think you're at a point where you can start to decide how you want to spend your money. Personally I wouldn't want to spend that much on living space but do what is right for you

like

Live in NYC on similar salary and pay 2200. Definitely doable, I still max 401K and put away $500 to savings / market. If it makes you happy, go for it. If you can, buy the place instead, 100K should be enough for a down payment on a nice condo

like

Aiyo what a mess this thread is. But thank you for all of your input! I definitely do not have 100k liquid

like

Lol, this is 1k less than what I'd spend a few years ago in NYC for a meh studio at just slightly over your income - you ought to be fine.

like

Y’all got anymore of those capital one referrals

like

Do it. Except a condo that is similar you can buy. I’d be much wealthier if I bought at 26 instead of continuing to rent.

Oooof thanks for this insight

Just enjoy it for a year then downgrade. Nothing wrong with enjoying the fruits of your labor, but you don’t need it forever. Just experience it for a short time then move on. Everything gets played out eventually. Even if you lived in a 50 million $ park ave penthouse and drove a Ferrari Enzo, you’d get used to it and they’d become boring.

Worked at the manager level in dallas and got a luxury high rise at the same salary. You can easily afford it and should do it if it brings you joy

like

I don’t think luxury apartment rentals are income restricted. I don’t see your application getting denied unless you have really bad credit. I’d say do it and have fun.
