And, of course, both the agencies that actually came up with Got and Think were totally Indy, at the time. The holding companies had nothing to do with it. Still, trade press gotta press.
Those two campaigns are both done by what are now Omnicom agencies lol. Neither is from an IPG shop.
I don't have more info but thanks for sharing this OP. I'm intrigued to know what the company is going to be called and where it'd be located. Is it an aspirational place? Yes for sure. I think those campaigns made up me entire childhood and sort of are the reasons I wanted to get into advertising.

it’s the acquisition of IPG by omnicom. the merged companies will continue to be called omnicom. it’s essentially a takeover.
This is a classic example of an editor or headline writer trying to give some context to a reader who isn’t familiar with the players. Would a person who doesn’t work in advertising or deal with agencies be as likely to read an article with the headline “Advertising giants Omnicom and IPG to merge”? Probably not. Frankly, Omnicom has always sounded like a fictional company from the Simpsons to me, and I used to work for them.
