Every time I evaluate where I am, I realize I’ve run some three hundred miles in the wrong direction in this marathon and I have to realign.
So I’d say about an 8 or a 9 out of 10 all in all.
Very true, and wise—Chesterton wrote something similar.
Rewarding as the exercise might be, it can be quite exhausting nonetheless.

10 honestly, it was a 2/3 when I first started. Then I got on a great project with a great manager, I gained confidence, I grew up a little, I built a better reputation (my first year I literally slept through several meetings 😅🤡), and I turned things around through learning, working, and being consistent.
I started traveling for work, I’ve been at the same client in various projects for 18 months, I got early promoted to senior last year, and I love my current team. I find the work interesting (and exciting in a nerdy way), I’m learning a TON, I’ve built some skills and gotten to flex a bit, and my work life balance is amazing even though I sometimes work west coast hours.
I’m really happy with where I am, and I don’t want to progress to manager for a good while. I love being an individual contributor with no team oversight or responsibility… but like an individual contributor who knows her shit. Lol.
