Have a great weekend everyone! :)
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

100%.
I was even sucked into the same vortex again yesterday.
I craft and taste just trendy words to describe what (most of us) are already doing?
I'd like to think taste is subjective. Eye of the beholder, etc. Whereas craft, in my mind, is directly related to quality (aka: craftsmanship) or, as-in the thing was built by a team of folks with experience (we know what to do as we've done it before, etc.) or the thing was built with an established design system, toolset (code), and a UAT/QA process, etc..
You can build a rapid prototype that looks great in a short amount of time but is it responsive, fully accessible, and battle tested? No, or at least, rarely.
At that point, is it tasteful? Sure, probably.
Was it built with intention and backed by documentation? Ehh, maybe not so much.
Hmmm... crafty, tasty buzz words.
